Aptilo Networks is the leading provider of service provider Wi-Fi access control, policy control and charging solutions. The Aptilo Service Management Platform™ (SMP) has been deployed with over 90 service provider Wi-Fi customers in more than 60 countries.
The Aptilo SMP works hand in hand with the Aptilo Service Portal™ (SPA) which provides monitoring, reporting and tailored statistics for different user groups through dedicated venue portals for a service provider Wi-Fi deployment. The user experience is controlled by the Aptilo Access Controller™ (AC) or third-party access gateways which securely communicates with the Aptilo SMP and oversees access and QoS control.
Fast-track your service provider Wi-Fi deployment
Aptilo offers a fast-track to launch service provider Wi-Fi with our pre-integrated functions for subscriber management, billing, web portals, access control as well as statistics and reporting all optimized to work together on a single scalable system – the Aptilo Service Management Platform. What this means for you as a Wi-Fi service provider is faster time-to-market and happy subscribers with the best user experience available today.
Just add the service provider Wi-Fi radio network
The pre-integrated Aptilo Service Management Platform (SMP) has all functionality needed to build a service provider Wi-Fi hotspot 2.0 service. All you need to do is to add the Wi-Fi network and optionally integrate with your existing OSS/BSS systems. The AAA+ and Policy PCRF+ core in Aptilo SMP is responsible for the important access control, policy management and charging for the service provider Wi-Fi deployment. This is a case where the whole is greater than the sum of its parts, which is why we have added a “plus” to the standard terms. These plus values include:
- A unique tight integration between the policy and charging functions
- Advanced APIs
- Aptilo ServiceGlue™ – Intelligent database interface and configurable functions facilitating integration with existing systems
- Dynamic Account Engine
- 3rd party gateway adapters
- Extensive native interfaces toward OSS/BSS and mobile core
- Session management
- RADIUS and Diameter support and translation between them.
- Wholesale support
- Intelligent roaming
- Policies for differentiated services including schedules based on day of week and time of day.
Just name the service provider Wi-Fi business model you need
In our over 90 service provider Wi-Fi deployments, we have been through all business models there is including recurring credit-card billing and exotic payment options such as prepaid through ATM machines. No matter what business models you need we are confident that we will be able to accommodate it. Learn more in our Aptilo Service Management Platform in-depth section:
- Subscriber Management – Hierarchical accounts, Voucher Management, Subscriber provisioning.
- Prepaid & Charging – Account types, Schedules, Recurring credit-card billing.
- Web Portals – Captive Portal, Web self-care, Payment options
Just name the capacity you need
Using the same software on different hardware platforms, the Aptilo Access Controller can scale from as low as 200 concurrent users on a silent small form factor PC all the way up to 12.000 concurrent users on a cluster system.
A Hotspot 2.0 ready system for service provider Wi-Fi
In late 2010 the Wi-Fi Alliance launched a concept they call Hotspot 2.0 primarily focusing on Wi-Fi radio vendor certification through the Wi-Fi CERTIFIED Passpoint™ program and the new IEEE 802.11u standard which facilitates an automatic network discovery and selection of carrier operated Wi-Fi networks. At the same time the Wireless Broadband Alliance (WBA) - of which Aptilo is a member – launched their Next Generation Hotspot (NGH) program which primarily focuses on interoperability between service provider Wi-Fi networks and roaming. Together the two initiatives aim to create advanced service provider Wi-Fi hotspot 2.0 networks with an improved end-user experience for authentication, security, network selection and roaming.
Ingredients when building a Hotspot 2.0 service provider Wi-Fi network:
- An IEEE 802.11u enabled Wi-Fi network (facilitates interworking with external networks)
- An IEEE 802.1x enabled Wi-Fi network with WPA2-Enterprise air interface encryption (radio link as secure as 3G/4G)
- Support for EAP-SIM/AKA SIM-based authentication or TLS/TTLS clients (authentication as secure and seamless as 3G/4G)
- Support for roaming
The Aptilo Service Management Platform™ in combination with the Aptilo SIM Authentication Server™ provides all the necessary back-end service management functionality for a Hotspot 2.0 service provider Wi-Fi network. These functions are also available in the Aptilo 3GPP AAA+ Server™ for a mobile data offloading scenario.
Do you already have a legacy Wi-Fi hotspot system?
No problem, we can integrate with what you have. However, some times it may be a better idea to replace what you have rather than building on something that will not hold the test of time. Learn more in our Wireless ISP section about some scenarios and customer testimonials where we have successfully replaced legacy systems with the Aptilo Service Management Platform for service provider Wi-Fi.
