North American Carrier Selects Aptilo for VoLTE Entitlement and Wi-Fi Calling

May 31, 2016/in Wi-Fi Calling /by Johan Terve

STOCKHOLM – Aptilo Networks has been selected by a tier-1 carrier in North America to enable Wi-Fi Calling and VoLTE / VoWiFi entitlement.

Aptilo SMP Wi-Fi Calling™ is an advanced vendor-agnostic 3GPP AAA system to enable carrier-class, next-generation Wi-Fi Calling. Based on Aptilo’s fifteen years of experience with AAA as its core business, Aptilo SMP Wi-Fi Calling goes beyond the standard functionality of a 3GPP AAA system with groundbreaking technology to enable Wi-Fi Calling in real-world deployments.

One example of such functionality is the interaction with iOS entitlement servers for onboarding individual iPhone devices to the VoLTE and VoWiFi services. This adds an additional authorization and security mechanism on top of what is specified in the 3GPP standards. Without the entitlement process in place, all SIM-enabled iOS devices would be allowed access to the VoLTE and Wi-Fi Calling services. It also brings additional benefits for the mobile operator such as end-user acceptance of terms and conditions (EULA), emergency address registration, and service activation for secondary devices associated with the subscriber’s mobile account.

“We are proud to have been selected for this large-scale deployment,” said Paul Mikkelsen, CEO, Aptilo Networks. “Selecting a best-of-breed AAA vendor such as Aptilo is the only way an operator can guarantee to get the additional functionality they need and keep their negotiation power by staying independent from turnkey solutions.”

“Aptilo’s multi-vendor support allows operators to select the right components for their Wi-Fi Calling service,” said Jonas Lagerquist, Director Business Development, Aptilo Networks. “At the same time, operators will get the world’s leading platform for carrier- class Wi-Fi service management, the Aptilo SMP, enabling award-winning Wi-Fi data services to subscribers and B2B customers.”

Aptilo Networks Announces Support for Next-Generation Wi-Fi Calling

February 4, 2015/in Wi-Fi Calling /by Johan Terve

STOCKHOLM — Aptilo Networks, a leading provider of carrier-class systems to manage data services with advanced functions for authentication, policy control and charging, announces Aptilo SMP Wi-Fi Calling™, an advanced 3GPP AAA application for the Aptilo Service Management Platform™ (SMP) to enable carrier-class, next-generation Wi-Fi Calling.

Aptilo SMP Wi-Fi Calling creates a highly secure connection between the operator and the user with advanced authentication mechanisms. Additionally, Aptilo’s solution allows mobile operators to apply policies to the Wi-Fi Calling service, dynamically in real-time, based on information retrieved from multiple sources such as CRM systems and policy management systems (PCRF).

Mobile operators that have already deployed an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) with Voice-Over-LTE (VoLTE) support can rapidly enable next-generation Wi-Fi Calling by adding the Aptilo Wi-Fi Calling application and a gateway (ePDG) to connect the Wi-Fi Calling service with IMS.

Aptilo’s Wi-Fi Calling solution goes beyond 3GPP standards with innovative features, such as intelligent policy decisions based on input from multiple sources and support for non-SIM devices. These features make Wi-Fi Calling work in real-world deployments.

“App-based Wi-Fi calling has been around for some time. However, next-generation Wi-Fi Calling with native support in the devices and seamless call transfer between LTE and Wi-Fi is a game-changer for the telecom industry. Aptilo’s next-generation Wi-Fi Calling solution delivers advanced functionalities that carriers need to compete,” said Jonas Lagerquist, Director Business Development, Aptilo Networks. “This type of extended functionality is required in real-world deployments.”
