Proven Carrier-Class Performance
STOCKHOLM — Aptilo Networks has released a new version of its complete PWLAN system solution for operation of public Internet access, “hotspots.” The solution consists of a Management Platform and an Access Gateway. Operating reliability has been significantly improved with multiple redundancies and system operation has been facilitated considerably through the addition of a user-friendly service portal with several statistics functions and simpler configuration. Due to the open platform it’s become easier to use the system with existent gateways from third party suppliers.
Aptilo Networks has developed its proprietary system for PWLAN (Public Wireless LAN) since 2000 and has gradually upgraded the solution in several stages. The new system version (5.0) offers many new features that provide greater ease of use. Aptilo has used all the experience from its systems up and running in more than 30 countries on five continents.
“So far the PWLAN market has been relatively modest and many operators have built their own functionality based on the available standard products. But today, more and more operators are instead choosing to invest in solutions developed specifically for PWLAN purposes,” says Jonas Björklund, Product Manager, Aptilo Networks.
In pace with the rising number of hotspots, there are growing demands on hotspot operators to offer a wider range of business and payment models. This requires purpose built operating systems to handle traffic and payment streams. To shorten time to market and make it easier for operators to get started, Aptilo is also offering its PWLAN solution as a managed service.
“Today Aptilo is one of the few suppliers capable of offering a complete PWLAN solution covering every aspect from management systems to authentication and support for multiple payment systems. At the same time, it is scalable for efficient operation of numerous interconnected hotspots. This is attracting strong interest from different types of hotspot operators worldwide who have previously started on a smaller scale and are now building more large-scale networks and handling a variety of business models,” says Jan Sjönell, Vice President, Sales and Marketing, Aptilo Networks.
The Aptilo system has been extensively tested at the HP Intel Solution Center in France and was graded as high performance carrier class system.
The new functions in Aptilo PWLAN System Solution 5.0 include:
– New redundancy functionality
– Better payment report generator for roaming services
– Improved statistics function
– More flexible database management with different access levels
– Capability for multiconfiguration of hotspots
– New payment interfaces and potential for integration with several hotel systems
