Aptilo Networks Announces Support for Next-Generation Wi-Fi Calling

STOCKHOLM — Aptilo Networks, a leading provider of carrier-class systems to manage data services with advanced functions for authentication, policy control and charging, announces Aptilo SMP Wi-Fi Calling™, an advanced 3GPP AAA application for the Aptilo Service Management Platform™ (SMP) to enable carrier-class, next-generation Wi-Fi Calling.

Aptilo SMP Wi-Fi Calling creates a highly secure connection between the operator and the user with advanced authentication mechanisms. Additionally, Aptilo’s solution allows mobile operators to apply policies to the Wi-Fi Calling service, dynamically in real-time, based on information retrieved from multiple sources such as CRM systems and policy management systems (PCRF).

Mobile operators that have already deployed an IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS) with Voice-Over-LTE (VoLTE) support can rapidly enable next-generation Wi-Fi Calling by adding the Aptilo Wi-Fi Calling application and a gateway (ePDG) to connect the Wi-Fi Calling service with IMS.

Aptilo’s Wi-Fi Calling solution goes beyond 3GPP standards with innovative features, such as intelligent policy decisions based on input from multiple sources and support for non-SIM devices. These features make Wi-Fi Calling work in real-world deployments.

“App-based Wi-Fi calling has been around for some time. However, next-generation Wi-Fi Calling with native support in the devices and seamless call transfer between LTE and Wi-Fi is a game-changer for the telecom industry. Aptilo’s next-generation Wi-Fi Calling solution delivers advanced functionalities that carriers need to compete,” said Jonas Lagerquist, Director Business Development, Aptilo Networks. “This type of extended functionality is required in real-world deployments.”
