STOCKHOLM — Aptilo Networks, a worldwide provider of integrated service management software for the wireless broadband market, today announced its support for the WiMAX Forum™, an industry led organization that promotes the interoperability and certification of broadband wireless products based on the IEEE 802.16 standard.
“The WiMAX Forum stimulates the development of new products based on the IEEE 802.16 standard and that will create new revenue opportunities for Aptilo Networks,” said CEO Torbjorn Ward. “Aptilo has extensive experience incorporating best available technologies into its product line, and adapting this to the needs of the customer. WiMAX plays well into the Fixed Mobile Convergence requirements we are seeing from our customers.”
Among a number of enhancements Aptilo Networks plans to incorporate parts of the WiMAX Forum specified supporting node functionality in the ASN gateway and CSN into the existing Aptilo Service Management Platform (SMP) and Aptilo Access Controller (AC). This will prove a future proof route to existing and new customers considering WiMAX deployment.
Jonas Lagerquist, Director Business Development at Aptilo Networks said, “There will be many similarities experienced by the service providers when nomadic and mobile services are launched based on the WiMAX standards, comparable to the present WiFi based services. The Aptilo system is tailored to manage these flexible business and network models and has proven successful in many large scale service provider- and metro wireless implementations.”
The WiMAX Forum is striving to create economies of scale made possible by standards-based, interoperable products that drive price and performance levels not achievable by proprietary approaches. WiMAX technology is designed to help service providers across global markets deliver economical broadband data, voice and video services to both residential and business customers.
