Aptilo Networks Listed by Tornado Insider As One Of Europe’s Top 100 Start-Ups
STOCKHOLM — Aptilo Networks has been named one of Europe’s top emerging private tech companies by the European IT & biotech magazine Tornado Insider in their third annual Tornado100 list.
Aptilo, headquartered in Stockholm, Sweden, was formed in the summer of 2001 and focuses on developing and selling systems solutions for public WLAN, whereby users can pay for wireless broadband Internet access connections, i.e. hotspots. Aptilo’s solutions are already in use in fifteen countries in Europe and Asia through operators and venues in such locations as hotels, coffee shops, conference facilities and airports.
“We are very pleased that our efforts have been recognized by Tornado Insider Top 100 starts-ups in Europe,” said Torbjörn Wård, CEO of Aptilo. “Despite a tough climate for technology companies we have found an emerging niche and a very good reception for our products on the market.”
The list, which will be detailed in the May issue of Tornado Insider magazine, will profile Aptilo and the other 99 most promising and innovative emerging companies in the European IT and biotech sectors.
“These companies are Europe’s Elite,” said Timothy Weeks, Tornado Insider’s Senior Research Analyst. “While much of the tech world continues to struggle, these entrepreneurial vanguards are busy catalysing the future.”
The selection of Aptilo Networks and the rest of the Tornado100 was narrowed from thousands of candidates and judged by the following criteria:
- Delivering an innovation that shows the promise of setting new standards.
- Introducing a major new audience.
- Supplying a key piece of the ICT infrastructure.
- Commanding a significant customer base.
- Having the potential to become a global brand or standard.
- Influencing a major market.
- Receiving a significant amount of funding.
- Having a strong valuation for a lucrative exit.
Although the list reflects start-ups and sectors in different stages of maturity, the Tornado 100 selection criteria favoured companies that have clearly demonstrated that the technology they are commercialising today will change the way things are done tomorrow.
