Aptilo Networks Steps Forward to Lead Multivendor WiMAX Initiative, Issuing Open Invitation to ASN Vendors for CSN Interoperability Testing
Leadership in Bringing the WiMAX Community Together to Pretest Service Interoperability Enables More Rapid Time to Market and Increased Commercial Adoption for Combined WiMAX Solutions
STOCKHOLM, DALLAS and KUALA LUMPUR — Aptilo Networks today announced the launch of the WiMAX Multivendor ASN Interoperability Testing (MAIT) Program. The new WiMAX MAIT Program was created by Aptilo Networks, a member of the WiMAX Forum, to proactively test interactions and interoperability between the Aptilo WiMAX CSN (Connectivity Service Network) Platform, ASN (Access Service Network) Gateways and Base Stations which comply with standards and specifications established by the WiMAX Forum. “MAIT certified” WiMAX solutions will provide validation for service providers that the combined multivendor WiMAX solution has already been interoperability tested from a service perspective, and can be quickly and easily set up with limited effort and integration.
The Aptilo WiMAX MAIT Program for upper layer service interoperability between ASN and CSN will complement the WiMAX Forum certification program focused on 802.16e-2005 lower layers between clients and base stations. The program will focus on testing critical service and security interactions that impact service interoperability, including mobile station identification, security key calculation used in the encryption of data against eavesdropping, subscriber access authentication, user authorization for service flows, and mapping user subscription profiles to different Quality of Service and priority schemes. ASN vendors that comply with the open standards specified by WiMAX Forum and are interested in participating in the Aptilo WiMAX MAIT Program should contact Aptilo Networks.
“There is a push in the market to come out with new WiMAX products, from the actual user terminals to the infrastructure equipment, but so much focus in the industry is on the radio side that people forget that in order to have a commercial system there needs to be more than just a working physical radio interface. We saw a critical missing link and felt that we should step up and lead the effort to proactively test interactions and interoperability of multivendor WiMAX solutions,” stated Torbjorn Ward, CEO, Aptilo Networks. “So today we are announcing the new Aptilo WiMAX MAIT Program and are dedicating the resources to make our Aptilo WiMAX CSN Platform™ available to any ASN vendors who want to work out any glitches and avoid service-impacting interoperability issues in advance. We welcome all ASN vendors who are willing to work with us to shorten the time to market for real life Mobile WiMAX commercial launches. The ability to mix products from different vendors to form multivendor networks will increase the rate of WiMAX technology adoption and benefits everyone in the industry.”
The Aptilo WiMAX CSN Platform™ provides service providers a highly flexible and versatile authentication, authorization, accounting (AAA) and policy management solution for mobile WiMAX network services, with support for pre- and post paid data and Voice over IP (VoIP) services. The integrated data and voice services solution provides authentication, authorization and accounting through multiple authentication types and enforces Quality of Service (QoS) and service flow profile parameters for users, devices and services. Intelligent AAA Proxy functionality in the Aptilo WiMAX CSN Platform™ allows service providers to manage interactions with multiple external AAA servers and roaming partners while a large multitude of service offerings and combinations of time, volume and price based subscriber accounts cover required business models.
Earlier this month, Aptilo Networks announced the launch of the new Aptilo WiMAX CSN Platform™, the market’s first integrated wireless broadband data and voice services solution for standards compliant Mobile WiMAX AAA and Service Control. Based on the field-proven, feature-rich Aptilo Service Management Platform™, the next generation wireless service management solution offered by the Aptilo WiMAX CSN Platform™ has already been selected by a leading WiMAX vendor and is scheduled to be part of a multivendor deployment planned for later this year.
