City of St Cloud – Powered by Aptilo Networks – Ranked #1 for the Second Year in a Row in Novarum’s Wireless Broadband Review

November 7, 2007/in Guest Wi-Fi /by Johan Terve

ST. CLOUD, Fla — City of St. Cloud, a suburb of Orlando, has for the second year in row been ranked #1 with its CyberSpot WiFi Service in Novarum’s independent Wireless Broadband review. The network has been installed by HP and uses a Wi-Fi Mesh Network from Tropos and a Service Management and Access Control System from Aptilo Networks. The solution especially ranked well in ‘Availability’ with a top score of 5 out of 5 and ‘Ease of use’ with a score of 4.

According to Novarum´s Website, “St. Cloud CyberSpot has perfect service availability and is therefore highly rated.”

“This shows how important the availability and ease of use is for the total end-user experience,” said Christer Holm, VP Sales, Aptilo Networks Inc. “It is only by choosing a carrier-grade solution that a metro Wi-Fi network can get the stability and usage rate up to a level that drives economic growth.”

City of St. Cloud was the first community in America to provide every resident and business with 100% free citywide high-speed wireless Internet access as a public service. The implementation has been a great success and stands out as a role model for metro wireless deployments in the United States. The free wireless Internet access is extremely popular with St. Cloud residents, allowing them to discontinue costly Internet broadband subscriptions. In addition, city operations are streamlined by a range of mobile applications such as GIS (Geographic Information System)-based maintenance and a work-order system that delivers a rich array of information to mobile devices via the WiFi mesh network.

“In the old days, a city official’s top priority was to establish a good infrastructure in terms of roads and public transportation to obtain rapid economic growth. City of St. Cloud truly shows that they are a community for the 21st century by building the infrastructure for the 21st century,” concluded Holm.
