Futurecom: Aptilo Debuts Innovation for Streamlining Wi-Fi Across All Types of Devices
FUTURECOM – RIO DE JANEIRO — Wireless networks are rolling out across Latin America at an accelerated rate, and Aptilo Networks, the leading provider of carrier-class Wi-Fi service management and offloading solutions, has been at the forefront of this growth enabling carrier Wi-Fi and Wi-Fi offloading for two of the largest mobile operators in Brazil: Oi SA and TIM Brasil, as well as for Linktel which operates the largest independent network of Wi-Fi hotspots in Brazil.
Finding innovative and pragmatic solutions to real-word challenges when deploying service provider Wi-Fi and offloading is key for fast ROI on Wi-Fi investments. Paul Mikkelsen, COO, Aptilo Networks, will present this topic and give concrete examples from deployments across the globe at a session at Futurecom in Rio de Janeiro on October 23 at 2:40 pm.
At Futurecom, Aptilo will debut new innovative features for Wi-Fi offloading designed to streamline mobile operators’ Wi-Fi services across all types of devices. The first of their kind in the industry, these solutions also tighten Wi-Fi security:
“Trusted” 3GPP Wi-Fi access for non-SIM authentication — A method for applying 3GPP Wi-Fi Access to all Wi-Fi-enabled devices. Support for SIM authentication (EAP-SIM/AKA) is a prerequisite for trusted 3GPP Wi-Fi Access, but far from all mobile phones support EAP-SIM/AKA. Support depends on the mobile phone’s operating system (OS) and can vary between phones using the same OS.
Aptilo’s solution makes 3GPP Wi-Fi access possible both for devices with support for EAP-SIM/AKA and devices without this support.
Patent-pending location-based multi-device login — Allows mobile operators to achieve a greater level of security for MAC-based authentication of devices in Wi-Fi networks. Aptilo’s invention makes an automatic MAC-based authentication for multiple devices more secure by tying them to an active mobile phone, belonging to the same subscriber, which is already authenticated via a secure EAP method at the same location.
“Mobile operators can now streamline their services to offer them across the different brand and models of mobile phones. This is a tremendous competitive advantage for carriers,” said Jonas Jacobsson, Vice President, Sales, Americas. “Aptilo continues to develop innovative solutions that generate revenue for customers and help them keep that competitive edge. In Latin America, the growth potential for wireless is tremendous, and we are proud to be working with several mobile operators to make wireless a reality across the region.”
