STOCKHOLM and SOUTHLAKE, Texas — Leading technology companies Transat Technologies and Aptilo Networks team up to provide a combined platform solution for authentication, mediation and seamless roaming management for WLAN deployment.
Swedish Aptilo Networks has an established system solution for public WLAN networks, Hotspots, and Transat Technologies has a leading solution for 802.11-subscriber connectivity with authentication via SIM card technology. Jointly the two companies now can offer a complete, proven, carrier grade software solution set that enables multiple payment method choices: credit card, subscription based user id/password, vouchers, pre-paid and post-paid and mobile phone subscription SIM/Smartcard. Trial systems are already set up with customers in Asia and Europe.

As part of today’s announcement, Transat Technologies and Aptilo Networks will deliver a combined software solution suite that makes it possible for any service provider, operator and owner of a public area to provide mobile users with a secure, high-speed wireless and wired access to information services and the Internet on the spot with a choice of authentication methods to fit their needs. The combined solution allows for both central as well as local or decentralized architecture. This makes managing a small or large number of hotspots simple, easy and very affordable.
“We are proud to be working with Aptilo to deliver advanced data management features to this Hotspot Solution,” said VP Sales, Chris Rogers, Transat Technologies.

About the Technology
Transat brings to the solution components that are a direct extension of the wireless GSM GPRS core network. Fundamental to the approach is to provide for 802.11 subscriber connectivity and hand off from the carrier network. Aptilo brings components for management, authorization, authentication and accounting and in addition several methods for pre- and post payment. The combined Transat/Aptilo product offering delivers a true evolutionary path with scalability for ease of entry with Pin and password to the secure authentication of SIM / smartcard. The solution integrates on a single platform the ability to automatically link multiple public wireless LAN and multiple cellular networks and enables roaming using existing SS7 inter-operator signaling infrastructure. Mobile operators can create inter-networking agreements with wireless Internet service providers or public wireless LAN aggregators and still extend – and bill for – public wireless LAN service to their own customers under their own brand.
